You may not see as many new sedans on Bassett, Danville, Rocky Mount, and Greensboro roads as you used to, but the 2025 Subaru Legacy could make you wonder why. With its standard all-wheel drive, spacious interior, and plenty of the latest in-car technology, the Legacy is an affordable, flexible, and versatile alternative to the ubiquitous SUV.
The 2025 Subaru Legacy is a great option if you like the idea of what Subaru as a brand has to offer but prefer something a little more conventional than some of its siblings. The Subaru Legacy shares a great deal with Subaru’s ever-popular midsize crossover but forgoes the rugged, outdoor-adventurer look and increased ground clearance in favor of a stylish, contemporary four-door sedan body style. There are five versions to select from in the 2025 lineup. The Subaru Legacy Base is the entry model, and the range then goes through Premium, Limited, and Sport trims before the lineup concludes with the Touring XT trim level.
Every 2025 Subaru Legacy gets an all-wheel drive as part of its standard specification in the traditional Subaru style. Every 2025 Subaru Legacy also sends power from the engine to those four wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Subaru is a champion of the CVT. That’s unsurprising, though, as Subaru’s CVT is generally regarded as one of the very best transmissions of this kind you can get. Base, Premium, and Limited trim levels feature a 2.5-liter flat-four Boxer engine producing 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. of torque. When you step up to the Sport and Touring XT versions of the 2025 Legacy, a 2.4-liter turbo-four with 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque is the standard powerplant. The 2.4 can the Legacy from 0 to 60 mph in around six seconds and the EPA fuel economy ratings are 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. If you stick to the 182 horsepower 2.5 engine, fuel economy ratings improve to 35 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the city.
The Subaru Legacy is one of those vehicles where you should put the measurements on the page to one side and take a look for yourself. The interior is considerably more spacious than you might expect, especially since the car’s most recent update. The front seats are impressively sculptured for comfort. Those with long legs will particularly appreciate the driver’s seat thigh extension found in higher trim levels. The cabin is practical as well as spacious, and that spaciousness doesn’t come at the expense of cargo volume, as the trunk is bigger than some of the Subaru Legacy’s main rivals. A power driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, illuminated USB ports, and the All-Weather Package are standard with the Premium and higher trim levels. Also standard is the SUBARU STARLINK 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system featuring a high-resolution LCD multi-touch-gesture display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, SiriusXM Travel Link, NFC technology, and an HD Radio. Navigation is standard from Limited onwards.
The 2025 Subaru Legacy offers a smooth, secure, versatile, and reliable driving experience, fusing a sophisticated design with cutting-edge safety systems and all-wheel drive. With its roomy cabin and an array of contemporary technology, the Subaru Legacy is comfortable and connected.
